By The Style Shot

From the pyramids of Egypt to the face of Beyonce, the cat eye has been a makeup trend for centuries. With its eclectic possibilities to transform, no wonder it has been a favorite on the runaways, the streets, and here on Beauty Marked. Achieving the perfect cat eye is not a walk in the park. To capture this look it takes practice and a whole lot of patience.

Before we get in to the the basics of a cat eye, let us look back on how this ubiquitous look came about. Cat eyes were first used in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Researches speculated that the Egyptians wore eyeliner to protect the person who wore it from the evil eye. In 10,000BC, materials such as lead, copper ore, and antimony were used to achieve the cat eye. In the 1920s, Tutankhamun’s ( a Egyptian pharaoh) tomb, was discovered, which lead to the introduction of the eyeliner to the west. In the 1960s liquid eyeliner was used to create an enlarging eye illusion.

Gel eyeliner is one of the most commonly used type of eyeliner to receive a winged look.

Pencil eyeliner is highly recommend for beginners.

Liquid Eyeliner:

Liquid Eyeliner is recommended to the advanced. Even though liquid has a longer lasting consistency, it is prone to mishaps, unless applied with a steady hand.

The cat eye has been around for numerous eras, and has been favored and adored by many.

Which do you prefer: Liquid, pencil or gel? Do you believe the cat eye trend is the only trend that will never go out of style, or are you tired of it’s shenanigans (black tears, etc.)?
